Test Drive 1

Welcome to All Inclusive's test drive! Anyone is welcome!

Guidelines

  • Please make sure you are familiar with how we play and what characters are allowed before participating.

  • Writing should be in para/prose just like in the main game. That means no brackets, no asterisks, etc. No network posts, please.

  • No anonymous comments.

  • We very strongly suggest NOT writing your character's first time at the Nexus, but rather a random scenario once they've gotten more used to the idea of the place. The shock and surprise of new arrivals and subsequent info dump by whomever meets them tends to be one note.

  • Entries to the test drive may be of any length. However, if your intro (top-level) comment is of normal post length and you are proud of the quality, you may use it as an example on your application.

  • Feel free to tag around the meme with any character you already play or are considering, even if they don't have their own intro comment.

  • If your character is accepted into the game and you have permission from the other involved players, you may consider test drive threads as game canon. You may also linkdrop them to the main community if you choose.

  • Please use the header below for your intro/top-level comment.

If there was one thing that would improve this place, Fiona thought, it was room service. The extravagance of something like that was not one she'd pay for back home, but here? After a shift behind the bar, and when the food was otherwise free? Yeah, she'd pay just to not have to tromp back downstairs to the buffet.

Of course, there's no telling what you might miss if you hole up in your room. Like, for instance, a bacon fanatic with an air of extremely unsettling familiarity about him.

Pausing on her way to a table, she looked at the guy, then looked skeptically around the room, and then looked back again, full plate wobbling atop her hand.

"Jesus," she said, arching her eyebrows. "I'd hate to see the other guy. You okay?"

"Oh, you know, just mildly broken. I have not started coughing up blood yet, so I would say that is a plus." Loki winced as he shifted to look at the woman who was completely unfamiliar to him. Yet another plus, in his book. He could do without being recognized for a bit.

"You know there's a doctor here, right? Like, right down the hall," Fiona replied, motioning with her free hand. "Free and everything."

That was news, but not an entirely exciting revelation. "I doubt a few Advil are going to work on me," he answered. Not to mention, that would mean he had to get up.

"Suit yourself," Fiona replied with a slight shrug. She made to continue to another table and then reconsidered, curiosity drawing her back again.

"I swear this is not as creepy as it sounds, but you want some company? It just seems weird for both of us to be sitting by ourselves, but if you want to be alone with your breakfast meats, I completely understand."

Loki waved to the seat across from him with his good arm. "Feel free. I could use a distraction." He realized how rude it sounded the second it came out of his mouth. Damn, that whole being forced to be honest was getting him into bad habits.

Speaking of.

"I ordered eggs," he announced to the air, before pausing. Huh. No desire to correct himself, to explain to her that was not at all true.

Perhaps he had been doing it to himself after all.

"Sorry. Ignore that. Ignore everything I just said. Please, feel free to sit with me. I could use the company."

If anything, the weirdness only added to the familiarity of the demeanor and clothes. As Fiona slid into the proffered seat, it was on the tip of her tongue to to admit why she'd stopped and talked to him in the first place, but 'Hey, I'm talking to you because you remind me of this friend I have who also wears a lot of leather' seemed a bit much, even after the bit about the eggs.

"That wasn't a judgment call, about the meat," Fiona clarified with a bemused smile. "Sometimes a guy just needs a giant mound of bacon to go with his chocolate shake. Nothing at all weird about that." Her smile quirked, and she picked up her fork.

"I'm Fiona, by the way."

Loki found himself cracking a smile. It made his jaw hurt, but it was a relief that he could still find things funny even now.

"Only strange in that someone would show so much good taste at once," he quipped in return. "I am Loki."

In the middle of spearing a bit of fruit with her fork, Fiona stilled, and then lifted her gaze across the table, eyebrows arched high.

Once he'd said it, of course, it made perfect sense. She'd thought maybe he'd been from Loki's same planet or something, that they shared a penchant for haughtiness and viking-wear, but now she could see similarities everywhere she looked.

"You don't know me," she slowly replied, not sure if it was a statement or a question. Had he gone through a door that aged him down? Had it fucked with his memory? Could this be a doppelganger? Was that even possi-

Yes, obviously it was. This was the Nexus.

Groan. Had he not just thought it was great no one would know him here? Of course someone would know him, or one of him. To be Loki was to have yourself screw you over, even out of peaceful enjoyment of breakfast meats.

"Please clarify which me is supposed to know you before I panic." Because if it was King Loki or, worse, the younger Loki, he might as well drown himself in the shake the waitress just put in front of him.

Eyes rounding, Fiona faltered and then motioned helplessly with the hand still holding the fork, the strawberry speared on the end swaying over her plate.

"Uhhhh, older you?" she tried. "Sometimes wears suits? I don't even know what that means, which you. How many of you are there?"

Right, most people did not deal with the Multiverse as often as he did. Loki leaned forward, resting his elbow on the table. Older him was a slightly less terrifying start. "There are an infinite number of mes, technically. But right now I am worried about a specific one. Does he happen to be old, wrinkly, and extremely high on the cray-cray scale?"

"No," Fiona replied with a slight shake of her head. "To either. Mostly just moody with a leather fetish. And would never say cray-cray."

Doppelganger it was, then. She wasn't sure if that was better or worse than the alternative.

"Oh. Okay." No drowning himself in chocolatey goodness, then. He pulled his shake close instead, taking a sip out of the straw. "I can handle moody with a leather fetish."

"Do I want to know what the alternative is?" Fiona asked as she settled her fork onto her plate, strawberry untouched. "When you say cray-cray, what do you mean?"

The casual use of the term bothered her, and not just because of her personal experience. In the back of her mind was a niggling little voice, a suspicion that Fiona quickly tried to tamp down. There were times when Loki could seem so distant or melancholy, particularly recently.

"I mean psychotic meglomaniac who destroyed the Earth. Well, destroyed a future Earth, not the one I am currently from. He is trying to make sure his future happens." The way Loki scoops bacon off the top of the pile he is brought and casually starts to nibble on it masks how disturbed he is by the idea.
